Ears of a Monkey
If you haven’t made it your local music
retailer to pick up the new Quartjar CD, Years of a Monkey, or you’re
just trying to cut back on hard copies and love the sound of digital
downloads, you can get the album from iTunes. Longtime scenester
Randall Brown’s latest project, featuring a slew of local hot-shot
musicians, is also available from such online music sources as CD Baby,
DigStation, PayPlay and Tradebit. Quoth Brown: “It's just amazing the
distribution that is available for an unsigned, independent local band
that recorded an album in the basement.” Amen. This will hopefully help
the Ramblin’ Man get one step closer to achieving his dreams of being
big in Japan.
Add An Annex
An additional 5,000 square
feet of classroom, meeting and rehearsal space was recently added to
the Emporium at 100 S. Gay St., with the addition of their Annex, which
opened recently. Built one floor below the first level of Gay Street,
underneath the main gallery level of the Emporium Center, the Annex
hopes to provide space for some of the arts organizations and groups
that have been displaced by the sale of the Candy Factory.
In other Emporium news, the Arts & Cultural Alliance will be exhibiting for sale pieces from its Collection beginning Thursday, September 6. More than 70 works by local and national artists will be on display, with a slient auction taking place on First Friday, September 7.
