KV: It's funny, the way you talk about your experience at their show 15 years ago is still how people talk about them when they see them today.
CF: It's amazing, and that's one of the great things about that group — they've always been just sort of down-to-earth guys who really have done a fantastic job mixing art and entertainment and putting it in a positive light where people leave the show elated.

“The Dark is Rising”

CF: This is a beautiful song, on All is Dream. I like that those guys have been using bowed saw on those last few albums. It's added a whole other aesthetic, like a poor man's Theremin... I like the way they've transitioned from a noisy, kind-of-weird band into a thoughtfully beautiful band that's been composing a lot. I really wonder what triggered that. I know [producer] David Fridmann was doing a ton of work in the studio and hanging out with [the Flaming Lips'] Michael Ivins and Steven Drozd. I don't know exactly what led to this kind of music, but I'm glad they did it.
Spacemen 3
“Revolution”

CF: “Revolution,” I'm not sure which album this version is on. They're a huge influence on me. I really wish I could've gotten to see those guys play live. Spacemen 3 – talk about a wonderful band. A wonderful band of guys that all hate each other.
KV: What are the chances of a reunion, do you think?
CF: I mean, I'm not going to say it will never happen, but I'm thinking no way. Jason Pierce and Sonic Boom really hate each other's guts.
KV: Do you like Spiritualized or Sonic Boom's stuff?
CF: I checked out those early Spiritualized records, and I thought they were good, but I was never a huge fan of when they turned into a more commercial sort of band. It's sort of generically dry. As far as Sonic Boom, I've enjoyed his solo material; some of that E.A.R. stuff is hilarious. I'm still going to be a fan of that guy until he does something to piss me off, but I don't think that's going to happen.
