Take a swing at spring with striped knee socks, the metal ping as ball meets bat and the bonding ritual of team practice that goes hand in hand with America’s pastime. Signups have already started for the City of Knoxville’s youth and adult baseball and softball leagues, covering age groups from T-ball young’uns to non-competitive, free senior leagues.
“The city offers nearly 70 quality ball fields, and we encourage kids and adults alike to participate in the fun, healthy and team-building sports,” says city Parks and Recreation director Joe Walsh. Parks around Knox County boast as many as seven fields in one location, and ballfi elds are sprinkled pretty evenly in all districts.
The city, paired with Doyle Academy, will hold a baseball and softball camp for kids March 8 at Caswell Park and a March 17 camp for ages six and older, to introduce the basics of the sport to some and hone the skills of more experienced players. Early tuition is $40, upped to $70 after March 7.
